Sewage treatemt, cleaning our  water !

The pollution of our water system, especially oceans is a large concern. Locally  we have a harbor  that we can not swim in and our fish are certainly a concern when deciding if they are eaten . The city of HRM  came up with a plan known as the Halifax Harbor Solutions Project.

The Harbor Solutions Project consists of four key components:

• Sewage Collection System, including outfalls, diffusers and access roads
• Sewage Treatment Plants design and construction
• Operation of Sewage Treatment Plants
• Bio-solids (sludge) management

Students will   answer the following  questions regarding  the  4 key components. Answers will be complete and in paragraph form. Today is the only day that they will have class time to work on the  assignment . The assignment is due by the end of the day Thursday May 15th .  This means there is homework.

QUESTIONS

• What makes up the physical collection systems? “keep in mind buildings,  materials”
• How does the sewage get to the treatment plant once it leaves your house, office or office etc. ?
• How is the sewage treated once it comes to the sewage treatment plant.
• What is the process of treatment once it gets to the plant and then goes into the harbor as treated sewage( clean)  . The answer is list or explain all of the steps.
• Who maintains the sewage treatment plants?
• What are the bio-solids and what happens to them?
